Professional Biography:

Alex has over twenty years’ experience in investment and asset managing hospitality and mixed-use assets through all stages of the investment cycle – concept, feasibility, design, preopening, operating, asset management, pre-sale and disposal. Over this time, he has worked in five continents and been responsible for over $8 billion of global hospitality assets, spanning a multitude of global brands and operators.

His work has also included responsibility for real estate development including global hotel construction, renovation and major refurbishment projects, branded residences and hotel rebranding and has regularly undertaken due diligence for acquisitions & disposals, debt & equity funding negotiations as well as operator search and contract negotiations including franchise and management agreements. From an operational perspective he has conducted numerous business reviews identifying areas for business repositioning and revenue enhancement. Previously Alex held various senior Finance and Asset Management roles in Grand Hotel Group – the first listed hotel property trust in Australia; Istithmar Hotels-the Government Dubai’s international hospitality investment arm; Deloitte UK and Al Dau Development -a major high net worth family group based in Egypt.

Qualifications:

Alex holds a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne University, in Melbourne Australia, and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant. His further studies include a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (now FINSIA) and a Certificate in Hotel Real Estate and Asset Management from Cornell University.

Passions:

Alex was previously treasurer for The Children’s Bureau of Australia and a founding Board Member of Oz Child, a leading child welfare organisation in Australia. A lapsed surfer and scuba diver he now spends his spare time rambling and exploring the English countryside. He is also a level 1 accredited coach for junior-level Australian Rules Football and is a staunch supporter of Collingwood his AFL football team.
